Updates...

I have received several emails asking when our website will be up and running and I am happy to announce that the website will be fully operational within the next two weeks. When it is up, I will email everyone who signed up for our mailing list. If you haven't signed up and would like to be notified, please let me know by emailing me at, Elizabeth@k9safehouse.org.

K9 Safehouse is hard at work saving all breeds and ages of dogs from some very dire conditions. As some of the shelters that we work with are strictly outside shelters, these conditions will, unfortunately, become extremely dire in the winter. These animals are in desperate need of foster homes so that we can get them out. If you can foster, or would like to find out more about our foster program PLEASE email me.

Thanks!

Adopt Alexis.....Now!

Alexis is a sweet, red head (aka Australian) Border Collie that K9 Safehouse saved from a high kill shelter months ago. Her foster parents love her, but we need to find a forever home for her!

Alexis is very charming - as you can tell from her photo - and is great with other dogs, cats, kids, etc. She has a wonderful, playful personality and will keep you laughing. She loves running around in the backyard, at the park, playing Frisbee, etc. just as much as she loves snuggling up on the couch and watching TV.

She walks well on a leash - no pulling, knows basic commands, and is housetrained.

Alexis loves children and other dogs and would do best in a home with either, or both.

She is one and a half years old, up to date on vaccinations and spayed.

If you can adopt Alexis, please email Elizabeth@k9safehouse.org

More Adoptable Dogs!

Hi everyone! It's been a bit since our last posting. As I may have already mentioned we are working on a newsletter to keep everyone updated. Once it's complete we will either mail or e-mail to all who have signed up for our mailing list. Our newsletters will include info on adoptable dogs, a Q and A offering advice for common dog "issues", updates on our dogs that have been adopted, upcoming events, and much more! We are excited to be making such great forward progress and wish to thank everyone who has helped up along the way, stay tuned! If you are interested in signing up for our mailing list please email: Elizabeth@k9safehouse.org and let me know - please provide mailing address or the email address that you'd like the newsletter to be sent to.

Now, for our adoptable dogs:

First, we have Athena. Athena is an absolutley STUNNING, female German Shepherd. She is about three years old and weighs 72 lbs. Athena has been temperament tested and is of no concern with regards to children, grown-ups and other dogs. However, I am told that she is not a fan of cats (or maybe she is a fan of cats, and we're just not fans of what she'd do to a cat), so NO cats, please! If you are interested in adopting Athena, please email!

Here we have Zeus! Zeus is our handsome little Husky mix (no idea what he's mixed with!). Zeus is another great dog - gets along with everyone - and will make a fantastic family pet. He is about one year old and weighs about 35 pounds. Remember, Husky mixes have a bit of energy to burn and do best with an active family and a lot of space to run around. If you are interested in adopting, please email!

And here is Herbie (love that name). Herbie is a baby - still waiting on an exact age from the shelter - hound mix. He is about 22 lbs and ANOTHER great dog. He loves playing with the other dogs at the shelter and eats up any and all attention that he can get from the humans there. Poor Herbie has spent such a long time awaiting a home (almost his whole life) in the high kill environment of the shelter. Please consider giving this baby the loving home he deserves!

Next, we have Daisy. Poor Daisy was brought into the shelter by her owners who said they could no longer keep her because they were moving. They brought her in with her brother. Her brother was adopted almost immediately, but poor Daisy has been there alone and scared for several months. I feel badly for all of the dogs but I felt a little worse for Daisy. She had the only home she has ever known taken from her, and her brother, too. Daisy is a very sweet dog - lots of energy as she's a border collie mix -, loves playing with other dogs and children. She is a whiz at fetch and loves a Frisbee. If you can give Daisy a place to call home again, please email!

Lastly, (for now), we have Thomas! Thomas is a two year old Chow chow! I LOVE these furry guys! Thomas is wonderful with all other dogs, kids, grown-ups and cats, too! Thomas is a mushy ball of love and fur and wants nothing more than a family to call his own. If you can give Thomas a loving family, please email!

As always, all of our dogs are spayed/neutered and up to date on vaccinations. Please email: Elizabeth@k9safehouse.org with any questions you may have!

Fun, Loving Home Needed For Simba!

Sweet, shy Simba needs a place to call his own. His short life has been so hard - first living as a cast away in the streets and then in the loud, overcrowded, scary shelter - he deserves the best home we can find him!

Simba is a six month old yellow lab. He needs a home filled with lots of warmth and love, lots of cuddles and toys and...a furry brother or sister. Simba is shy (can you blame him?) and needs the company of another dog to bond with and to learn to open up to his new people.

Despite this, Simba is a typical puppy and loves to play with his favorite toys - stuffed animals, bones, etc. He loves to romp around with other dogs in the yard and would do best with a fenced in area to play in. Simba is as smart as he is beautiful and is housetrained/crate trained.

He is up to date on all of his vaccinations, neutered, microchipped and all ready to go to his forever home.

If you can open up your fun, loving home to Simba please email, Elizabeth@k9safehouse.org.

More Adoptable Dogs and Puppies!

We've been super busy at Our Silly Dog Pack and have had a hard time keeping up on this site. A lot of our dogs have been adopted to great homes and their stories (as well as happy photos, if we have them) will be posted shortly!

Currently we have several great dogs in search of a great home. They are as follows:

First, we still have Maury (pictured above)! Maury is a five month old Boxer mix. He's very smart, playful and has an amazing sense of humor. He loves to play with other dogs and loves the company of all people (adults and kids, alike). He is fully housetrained and super cuddly
.

Next, we have two, three month old Shepherds, Neo and Jag. Neo and Jag are sweet (and beautiful) babies. They get along well with other dogs and have a lot of energy to burn. They would do best in a household with another dog or, even better, going to a forever home together!

Then we have Rebel, a ten month old boxer baby! Rebel is 40 pounds and likely will not grow too much larger. He is as sweet as he is handsome and has been in the shelter with his lab buddy, Sebastian (below). They are both available for adoption!
Sebastian is a happy-go-lucky Chochoalte Lab. He's a little over a year old and always has a smile on his face. Gets along great with other dogs, cats, kids and grown-ups, too! He and his friend Rebel (above) have been in the same kennel at the shelter for awhile and have become fast friends. It would be wonderful if these guys could be adopted together or if they could go to a home with a playmate!

We also have these three lab babies - 16 weeks -, 2 Yellow and one Black named, Treat, Trip and Trixie. Again, they are labs - great with people, kids, etc. They are babies and they LOVE to play together. Their picture really says it all!

Lastly, there is April! Look at that face! April is a sweet, affectionate, cuddly girl. She is a little over a year old and weighs about 25 pounds. Terrier mix? I don't know...your guess is as good as mine! April is in a foster home with several other dogs and gets along well with everyone. She is fully housetrained and a real smartie pants to boot!

If you are interested in providing any of these dogs with their forever homes, need more information or are looking for a particular breed/size/type of dog that you didn't see here, please email. Additionally, we are always seeking fosters and if you feel you can provide a temporary home for a dog in need, please email - Elizabeth@k9safehouse.org.

Thank you for considering saving a rescue dog!

2 Year Old American Foxhound For Adoption

Meet Pearl! Pearl is an amazing two year old American Foxhound looking for her forever home. (I thought she was a coonhound but I stand corrected!). Pearl is gentle, sweet and mild mannered. She gets along well with all of the other dogs in her foster home -- and boy are their a lot of them! She is amazing and gentle with people and kids, alike. There are also cats in the foster home and she has simply ignored them. You really couldn't ask for a better family dog! If you are interested in adopting Pearl please email today! Pearl is UTD on vaccinations, spayed, microchipped and will come with a full year of heartguard (heartworm preventative) to the right home.

If you are interested in adopting Pearl, please e-mail, Elizabeth@k9safehouse.org

Nine Puppies For Adoption

A few months back K9 Safehouse saved Karen, a two year old Shep/Collie mix off of the Greenville Euth. list. We quickly found out that it was not just Karen - in one swoop we saved Karen and her NINE puppies. Over the past two and a half months we've been providing Karen and her babies with the best care and boy does it show. Karens little puppies have turned into bouncing, playful, little guys/girls and are ready to find their forever homes (and mom, is ready for a break!).

Karen is a shep/border collie mix and her puppies appear to be shep/border collie/boxers? But, who knows.

All of the puppies have received their first vaccinations and are dewormed. If you are interested in adopting one of the precious pups please email, Elizabeth@k9safehouse.org

Adopt Asia!

Asia is one of the newest members of Our Silly Dog Pack. (See earlier posts for other photos). Asia is amazing. I have had her at my house for four hours and I am absolutely in love with her. She is a sweet, goofy, silly, girl and anybody who meets her will fall in love just as I did.

Asia is a rescue from Greenville, SC - a high kill shelter. The shelter called her a Husky/Shep mix, but now that we've hung out with her for awhile we firmly believe she is a Husky/Hound mix - what an awesome mix! She has big, floppy ears, a silly grin and huge feet!

She gets along great with other dogs -- is super playful - and kids!

If you can give Asia the home she deserves please e-mail, Elizabeth@k9safehouse.org

As always, Asia is spayed, up to date on vaccinations, treated with flea medication and microchipped.

Maury and Pauly - Two Great Puppies!

Meet Maury (pictured above) and his buddy Pauly (pictured below). Maury is a four-month-old Boxer Mix. He currently weighs 24lbs - he'll be a big boy! He is 100% housetrained, will sit on command and uses his doggy door with ease. He's an absolute love and would make a great family pet.

Pauly is a two-month-old hound mix (we think hound/beagle but who knows?). He's just a baby and absolutely sweet as can be. I could play with those floppy ears all day!

To find out more information or to adopt one or both of these guys, please e-mail Elizabeth@k9safehouse.org.

More Adoptable Members Of Our Silly Dog Pack

Our Silly Dog Pack is packed to the gills with our silly furry friends. If anybody can lend a hand fostering/adopting or sponsoring these beauties please e-mail Elizabeth@k9safehouse.org.

It's been another busy week for Our Silly Dog Pack and K9 Safehouse. We've been rescuing so many dogs I can't even keep track. I'm even rescuing dogs in my sleep...when I do sleep. I'm so exhausted I feel like I've been run over by a bus. Thank goodness for our vacation next week.

OK, lets get to it and introduce another round of rescues:

We have Rhonda the Rhodesian Ridgeback mix, pictured above. She's 2 years old, 65lbs, HEALTHY (phew), and a sweet, sweet girl. She has been in a kennel with four other dogs and gets along famously with all of them. She's gorgeous and sure to make a great addition to any family.

Next up is Reid. Reid is a four-month-old baby lab puppy. He weighs in at 20lbs. He's a baby and like all of the babies that pass through here, he's super sweet, friendly, and full of that fun puppy energy. Labs are great dogs and we can never pass one up...hopefully you can't either.

Then we have Remi, another little lab baby. Remi is three months old and weighs in at 15 pounds. Again, she's a lab, she's a baby, and she's adorable! Reid and Remi would LOVE to go to a home together so if you have room in your home and heart for these two lovable pups please let me know!

Finally, we have Asia. Asia is a beautiful Husky/Shepherd mix. She is one-year-old, and 40 pounds. She is a happy, playful, agile, spry girl. She will keep you fit, active and on your toes. I love all dogs, but I am partial to the husky mixes. They are truly a blast! They have silly personalities and a lot of spunk. Adopt Asia before I have to keep her!

Please remember that all of our dogs are spayed/neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations!

If you are interested in adopting any of these dogs e-mail me. If you are not interested in these guys (because you're nuts) but are interested in a different age/breed/whatever, e-mail me. We can help! If you're unsure, try fostering -- we'll pay for the dog, you get to play with it! If you can't do any of these things but you want to help we are taking donations of all kinds: Money, food, treats, blankets, crates, etc. All donations are welcome. For any other info, e-mail! Elizabeth@k9safehouse.org.

One last thing: If there is anyone out there who can explain to me why I am having such a difficult time of posting photos to this site.....e-mail me, PLEASE.

Until next time....

Update: Nikko Is Adopted!

I have received an incredible amount of e-mails for Nikko, or "Tiny" as we like to call him. I'm happy to report that Nikko has been adopted and he is now living happily ever after. It's so nice to get photos of these guys being loved, living in their new homes. It's a great reprieve from the endless amount of sad, broken, lonely dogs we see on the euth list on a daily basis. We can't save them all, but it's nice to know we've made a difference for some... and it's that difference that keeps us going.

We're so happy for you, Nikko!

If you were interested in adopting Nikko please e-mail me at Elizabeth@k9safehouse.org, there are tons of other great little guys out there looking for their new forever homes.

Spaghetti and Beethoven

It has been such a busy week for Our Silly Dog Pack. We saved seven dogs from the euth list this week -- our biggest victory yet.

Earlier this week I posted these four: Stella, Bridgette, Horse and Marilyn.

Prior to that we posted a plea for Spaghetti. Her pull fees and transport were sponsored but still nobody would take her. I e-mailed and said I'd take her (pregnant), too.

Then there was Beethoven. He had rescue but his rescue group failed to pick him up. He was posted all over the place as URGENT. My little sister even begged me to save him. We pulled him, too.

Beethoven is a 7-Year-Old Border Collie/St. Bernard mix. He weighs 65 pounds and I'm told he's an absolute sweetheart. I will post more on Beethoven next week. If you are interested in adopting Beethoven, please e-mail Elizabeth@k9safehouse.org.

Thanks,

Liz

Coming Soon - New Adoptable Members of Our Silly Dog Pack

All of the following dogs have been recently rescued from a high kill shelter. They were all on the euth list.

This guy to the left is Horse. He's being called a Blue Tick Heeler -- but just like Nikko (previous post), you never know.

I fell in love with him on site. He looks like his head has been photo shopped onto his body, doesn't he? He was a staff favorite at the shelter and is described as a sweet, loyal, gentle goof who is good with everyone -- kids, grown-ups, cats and other dogs. He's up to date on shots, neutered, micro-chipped and weighs 65 pounds. What is not to love about this guy?

This baby on the right is a female black lab puppy named Bridgette. Not much to say about her except that she's a BABY. Everyone loves a baby and I'm sure this baby will love you right back. It's so sad to see her in this cage. I can't wait to see a photo of her in her future forever home!

This little heart breaker on the left is, Stella. Stella is a 4-month-old Border Collie. Who doesn't love a Border Collie? They do everything! Swimming, Hiking, Frisebee and they're SMART. Border Collies are like kids, but they're nicer to you and they don't talk back! Oh, and they're furry and will keep you warm in the winter. Stella is such a cutie pie. She is spayed, up to date on shots and micro-chipped. Lets get Stella out of this cage and into her new home!

This beauty here is Marilyn. Marilyn is an eleven month old shepherd mix. She is described as 'very friendly' and 'loves attention'. Who doesn't? Marilyn was turned into the kill shelter because her owners home burned down. We rescued Marilyn just in the nick of time and couldn't be happier that we did. Marilyn, like all of our dogs, is spayed, up to date on shots, and micro-chipped.

Please consider adopting a dog today!

If you can't adopt, please consider fostering. Fostering saves lives, too!!

Please direct inquires to Elizabeth@k9safehouse.org

Thanks for looking!

Urgent - Help Needed For Spaghetti

Spaghetti is on the infamous 'Red List' at the Greenville Shelter. She is a sweet, 2 year old, Pit/Lab mix who has been heartlessly dumped at a kill shelter -- and she's pregnant. You would think that being pregnant would save her from the Euth List for at least a little bit, but you'd be wrong. I emailed the shelter about ten minutes ago asking what the deal is with Spaghetti -- any potential rescues, etc? The response was simply, "Her time is up" and she will be "Put to sleep tomorrow morning".

You can help Spaghetti by pledging to donate any amount (even $5 helps) to a rescue that will take her or by fostering Spaghetti for a rescue group.

If you can help please email: Elizabeth@K9safehouse.org

Thanks!

Introducing Domino

Domino was rescued from a high kill shelter. She is a stunning, five-month-old puppy with beautiful coloring, long nose and adorable big perky ears. Domino is a sad case as it is obvious she has never truly been loved. She will melt your heart. She is skittish and afraid of people, but with a little patience and a lot of love you will slowly earn her trust. Domino lights up when another dog enters the room -- lights up in a way that I've never seen another dog light up - her eyes grow wide, she smiles and her tail starts wagging like crazy. She will follow the lead of other dogs so if you have another dog that would be helpful in earning her trust.

She has had such a short life but whatever happened, clearly it has had an impact on her. She is not growly or aggressive - just shy. It would be best for Domino to go to a home where there is at least one other dog and where the owners are committed to giving her the TLC she so desperately needs.

Other neat things about Domino:
*She is fast and agile and she has some 'herding' tendencies (circling the perimeter much like a herding dog) - perhaps she's a border collie mix?
*She likes to hide toys - I keep finding toy stashes all throughout my house
*She loves other dogs and doesn't bother with cats
*She loves rope toys and rawhide bones
*Many, Many, More...

Stay Tuned for more updates and 'Super Dog Stats'.

If you think you can give Domino the committed, loving home that she truly deserves please e-mail me. You'd truly be saving a life!

Meet Nikko -aka 'Tiny' - An Adoptable Dachshund Mix

Nikko, or 'Tiny', as we prefer to call him came to us from the shelter being called a Chi/German Shepherd mix. Seriously, I couldn't wait to meet him. How does a mix like that even happen?! I spoke to the woman at the shelter about him and she said, "Imagine you took a shrinking ray to a German Shepherd, that's what Nikko looks like" He does have the same coloring as a German Shepherd, I'll give her that - but that's really about it....well, maybe that and his, I'm-a-big-dog-trapped-in-a-little-dogs-body-what-gives?, attitude.

Tiny, I think, is a dachshund mix. Apparently my son thought so too, because the day after he came to us, we had this exchange:

Him: "Mom, what is that penis dogs name again?"

Me: "What?!!!"

Him "Errr, uhhhh, you know, the.....wiener dog?"

Me: "Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah". "His name is Nikko"

So, I think it's safe to say if a four year old can spot the dachshund in him, it must be there.

Now for the mix part. We have narrowed it down to two things - He's either a Dachshund/Chihuahua mix or a Dachshund/Beagle mix. I know, two totally different breeds right? But if you google the mixes they both look just like him.

In any case it doesn't really matter because any way you slice it Nikko is a pretty awesome dog. And, if you really need to know you can buy one of those cool doggie DNA testing kits and find out exactly what he is.

Despite his size Nikko is a guard dog -- at least that is what he thinks and it's best if you just roll with it. He listens very intently to every sound -- he's got amazing ear control -- and will surely alert you to intruders...or people delivering packages, the meter reader, and best of all...the bill collectors. When you would like him to stop alerting you a simple, "Thanks Tiny, be quiet now" is all it takes.

Nikko loves kids and I would love to see him go to a home with kids.

Let me know if you'd like to come meet Nikko.

Nikko's Super Dog Stats:

Age: 3 Years
Weight: 14 Pounds
Favorite Toy: Stuffed Animals
Silly Thing He Does: Nikko likes to jump in the shower with you. He will jump in and stay in the whole time. He also loves swimming - hence the goggles - which was a surprise to me because I didn't think he could pull swimming off with the long body and short legs..but, he loves it and he's good at it.
Super Dog Skill: Nikko has super hearing skills. He can also do neat tricks with his ears - raising one straight up while the other ones is down all the way, or halfway.

Meet Oswald - Not For Adoption, Yet, (Just Kidding)

Meet Oswald. Oswald was the first member of Our Silly Dog pack. In fact, it was Oswald and his silly 'super dog' antics that inspired us to assemble a Silly Dog Pack.

Oswald is a Springer Spaniel/Husky mix but we have yet to have someone peg him as such. I met Oswalds parents. His mom is a gorgeous black and white Husky and his dad is a short, stubby, growly Springer Spaniel. Oswald was part of a litter of puppies that were on their way to the shelter. Most of the others in his litter were all black and white - like mom - and had those cute, perky husky ears. They were all vibrant and active, stepping all over one another. Then there was Oswlad, huddled in a corner, looking alone and afraid. Unlike his brothers (for some reason all that were left in the litter were males), Oswald was brown and white and had cute, brown floppy ears. He was tiny and timid and if my kids had had it their way we would have went home with one of the others. But, ever a fan of the 'under dog', I chose Oswald. He was so tiny, he came home in a cat carrier.

The only other pet we had at the time was our cat, Fluffy. She was also quite young and although she didn't necessarily embrace the arrival of Oswald, she didn't really mind him, either. It didn't take Oswald long to become a beloved member of our family.

Oswald spent most of his time in his early months with kids, and cats. As such, he has adopted traits from both of them. For example, he enjoys wearing clothes - like a kid, and he eats like a cat - if you give him a slice of pizza he will pick toppings off first, eat cheese second, and take tiny bits of the rest until it is finished - eating habits which are much more polite than your average dog.

The time that Oswald has spent with our two four year olds has helped (in our opinion) to make him a super foster brother. He gets very excited with every new dog he meets. He is not interested in dominating anything. If a dog comes in and they don't want to play, Oswalds attitude is very much: that's cool, and here, eat my bone - I'll just go hide under the table (eventually, they all warm up).

Oswald is truly a great dog.

Oswald's Super Dog Stats:

Age: 1 Year
Weight: 37 pounds
Favorite Toy: Sticks
Silly Thing He Does: We make Oswald sleep in our bedroom at night - if we don't he gets into trouble - if we don't get up as early as he'd like he fakes throwing up to force us out of bed. He has learned that simply making that sound will get me out of bed in a flash.
Super Dog Skill - Oswald is a super jumper. He can jump a five foot fence with ease.
